Mass Appeal’s Rhythm Roulette: Honorable C.N.O.T.E.

Atlanta-based producer Honorable C.N.O.T.E has created hits for some notable hip-hop stars. Lil Uzi Vert‘s “20 Min,” ASAP Ferg’s “New Level” and ASAP Rocky’s “M’s.” He’s also laid down tracks with the likes of 2 Chainz, Gucci Mane, Lil Yachty, and Migos.

“I’m finna go to Good Records, pick three records out for you lil’ f*ckers and flip ‘em man. Is y’all ready? Come on, let’s do it!”

C.N.O.T.E.’s selections include Eddie Kendricks, Patti Labelle, and Pino Presti‘s single, “You Know The Way.” The producer takes his time playing the records thoroughly and even reading the credits. He managed to deliver two versions of the beat which sounding totally different. The first, a more soulful cut (which I preferred) but he wasn’t happy with it and went back to the drawing board before serving up a trap-heavy interpretation, with the obligatory high hats and bouncing drum pattern.

Overall, the end result was impressive. I just wish he’d spent time fleshing out the first instrumental.
